EVERY DECISION MATTERS

Life can go in so many different directions. It can be in a good direction or a bad direction. It’s up to us to decide where it goes.

The choices we make matter. I have seen this over and over in my life.

Even as children, choices matter. When I was in school I could choose to do well in a subject or not. If I chose to do my homework well then I would get a better grade. If I chose to study for a test then I had a better chance at passing. Paying attention in class is a choice.

I will say that as children, many choices are made for us. Those aren’t always good. Sometimes adults make poor choices, intentional and unintentional, that affect our young lives. The reality of this is painful. As adults we need to learn to make healthy choices for the sake of those around us.

So many decisions that I have made in my life have affected who I am today. So many. I can look back on my life and pinpoint choices that changed the trajectory of my life.

After graduating from high school, I left the church that I grew up in and went to another church. This changed how I looked at church. It took me on a path of learning to make some life decisions on my own, some good and some bad. Not all of my choices were good. Some of those still affect me today, 30+ years later. The unhealthy relationships that I chose to be in still affect how I see some relationships in my life today.

Because I wanted to do my own thing as a 20-something, I was in relationships that weren’t helpful for me in every way. The choices that I made hurt me physically, relationally, emotionally and spiritually. I still feel some of those today.

The most important one is spiritually.

Psalm 1:6

For the Lord watches over the path of the godly,

but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

We need to start with connecting with God consistently. When we do this, life will look different. It will look better. Bringing God into every decision of our lives, changes the trajectory of our life. Every bad decision that I’ve made has been because of not including God in it. Every time. On the other hand, every time I have included Him in a decision, it’s been good. This is true simply because He is good. Every good thing comes from above, which means that when God is in it, it’s good.

What does your decision-making process look like? Does it include God? I’ve learned that it’s really hard to make poor choices when He is in the process.

Every decision in our life matters. Let’s bring God into the process.
