GOD'S GOODNESS
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Psalm 34:8
God, by nature, is naturally good, as Psalm 34:8 tells us: "Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who takes refuge in him.” He is the foundation of goodness and of everything good - it's WHO he is. People can have good traits or do good deeds, but goodness is not in our character. Our goodness comes from God.
In our culture today we use the word good so loosely. We use it to describe how we are feeling, how we look, how our day is going, etc. I recently was reminded that the word good was first used by the Creator of the Universe when he created the earth and us.
Genesis 1:31 says, "Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!" When he created the earth and the universe. He used the word good to describe his creation.
God never uses the word good loosely. When he says it’s good, it really is good.
Most of us have gone through some tough times … death, divorce, illness/disease, financial hardship and on and on.
How do we view God when we go through the fire? Where is He when we’re in the midst of our pain? Is he still good?
I know that in the midst of my painful times, He is still good! He was, is and always will be good! He has shown me over and over again that his goodness and kindness towards me isn't shakeable.
Who are you in the midst of your trial? Have you found your identity in your situation? Have you claimed it as your own? I know that I did at one time. I claimed the lie that “I am a widow. I am a mother of a disabled child. I am the mother of 3 children without a daddy. I have to be strong.” Even though these are true statements in themselves, the lie is that I needed to claim these as my identity. This is NOT who I was and am. God did not create me to be those things. He created me to have my identity in Him!
It's because of His goodness that I can be confident in who I am in him.
It's because of His goodness that I can count on Jesus to walk through the tough parts of life.
It's because of His goodness that I can partner with Jesus in ALL seasons of life. Not some... ALL seasons.
Do we trust in God's goodness enough to partner with him in all things?
